History
My dream car. When my parents bought it, the front end was caved in from a runaway boat. Mum did some research and then some panel beating, and drove the car for about 2 years. When I got my licence and a job, I bought the car from them and drove it as it was for 8 years or so. I replaced the torn hoodlining after about 6 years.
Mechanically she's been serviced by a specialist VW mechanic right when she's due by km's. Before I started body work, they did a compression test and a thorough inspection and came up with no major probs.
I don't even know how many k's she's done, as the clock ticked over past zero a few years ago...
Modifications
On the completion of my apprenticeship, I decided to give my Bessie some love. I employed a panel beater to prepare the car for painting, a painter who would change her from white to black and red, and a signwriter who took photos of both sides and made up a decal silver double stripe to complete the body.
I sourced slip on white walls, and big domed moon discs. On trying to put the discs on, I realised that I needed an extra 12mm of clearance from the wheel nuts, so got the offset changed to accommodate the discs.
I ordered new carpets, and rubbers for windows and doors. I bought a pair of Monaro 6 way seats and had the front rails modified to take these, and had the back seat re upholstered in a fabric to match the monaro seats.
The dash was cracked so I made up a timber plinth to cover the top, and painted the rest to freshen. The radio (hadn't been standard since before my parents bought it) I replaced with a mp3 cd player, and new speakers. Unfortunately bigger ones wouldn't fit into the door recess.
Lastly the door lock knobs and gear shift knob were replaced with chrome skulls with glowing led lights.
Bessie has been stored on the family farm for the last 2 years, due to the birth of our first son, and is about to come home for weekend use.
