History
My wife’s car, its her 3rd XU1,and was Glacier White when purchased in 1993. Her previous XU1’s were also Glacier White, she does like them in that colour, However the original colour was Chateau Mauve, but the colour change wasn’t a big deal at the time. The cars history only became known in 2011, when the original owner provided details of a conversion by HDT to a V8 early 1973, verified by the WA HDT representative at the time, W. Negus, who arranged and completed the work. (It was also confirmed as a 72 September build Bathurst spec car, however the owner really wanted an XU1 V8). The conversion has been fully documented, and as it used HDT components and a specific GMH supplied motor it is probably the only verified HDT conversion. All it was missing was the big tank with dual fillers. Restoration to as it left the factory is nearly complete; the temptation is to then bring it to the V8 spec as converted in ’73.
