History
It was 1972 and my first year at university.
To get to Uni five days a week involved two busses then a long walk which was a very boring 90 minute commitment ... Each way! Bloody hell it was.
My parents could see that I was loosing interest fast once the middle of the year came.
My dad was well connected in the car game and appeared one day with a set of keys in his hand. Thinking that he had a loan car while his was being serviced I took a look outside and commented out load "Didn't give you much of a loan car!"
To which my dad replied "Its not a loan car, its yours!"
Of course I didn't believe him until half an hour later he came into my room and handed me the rego papers ... in my name.
I was so excited!
I took it for a spin. Unreal. Column shift. Good tyres. Plenty of squirt. Look out world!
But it had a very lazy radio.
I rang my Auto Electrician (apprentice) mate and we soon had installed a new AWA Clarion radio/cassette combo. I was the ducks guts. The coolest kid on the block. But the sound wasn't good enough.
We ran some wires to the back seat and I installed two massive SONY home speakers. Game on. That Bluebird did rock! The music was so loud. So so loud.
To this day I claim that I was the first serious street doof doofer in Sydney (tongue in cheek)
Life got so good I left Uni a few months later.
Modifications
Fully original except for the new AWA Clarion music system and the very large speakers on the back seat.
