Purchased 25 years ago, originall white with fibreglass roof. Built 1980 first registered in Adelaide S.A. January 1981. Purchased in 1991 from a mate in Adelaide and had it transported to Darwin by truck. used as a daily drive for 5 years then decided it would be a good car to customise. Body and uphostery was done in Darwin with the engine built by Link Automotive in Melbourne. Now in Adelaide where the polished aluminium roll over bars were made along with furher engine modification, electronic ignition, aluminium radiator and fan, high flow water pump.
Car is now only taken out on dry warm days, winner of "Minis at the Mill" (moke section) on 4 occasions.
Modifications
Complete rebuild commencing 20 years ago. 1980 Californian Moke Leyland. Multiple "Minis at the Mill" trophy winner. Full body ground up restoration, full body re spray in black with a light metal fleck (originally white). Guards widened by 75mm/side. New wiring loom, aluminium front & rear nudge bars with custom made 60mm aluminium roll over bars, all seats re-upholstered, new crimped aluminium dash with red trim. Monster tacho with shift light, new temp and oil gauges, fully carpeted in marine quality cut pile carpet with red piping. Momo "millennium" steering wheel, 13" mini-lite mags with 205 series tyres, spax adjustable front shocks, new rear gas struts and cones.
Engine rebuilt by Link Automotive to cooper (+) specifications,1100 S block with tuftrided 1100 S cross drilled crank 12G940 head casting, bore/ hone & hot tank block, groung crank, resize cooper S conrod set, deck height pistons, rods and crank, surface block, drilled extra stud holes. Balanced pistons and rods assembled and aligned, virgin camshaft grinded to performance weber specs, modified ports to full race specs, new guides and K-line. Insert of all seats for ULP and stainless race valves. Valve grind with modified chambers to full race specs. Head machined for 10.50 to 1 compression and extra stud holes drilled, worked out valve springs to suit. roller rockers stripped and inspected. fitted and reamed new bushes and assembled with competition rocker shaft. New push rods. 1275 water and oil pump. Oil cooler fitted. power booster for brakes, side draft Webber carby, power boosted brakes (disc/drum), electronic ignition, aluminium radiator with 6 bladed fan, silicon hoses.
