History
1953 Alvis Saracen Armoured Personnel Carrier. Its history prior to 1967 is unknown, due to changes in British military record keeping. Served in Northern Ireland, some of that time configured as an ambulance. In 1974 was upgraded from a Mk 2 to a Mk 5, which included welding an additional ton of armour plating over the top of it, larger wheels and tyres, changes to the interior, different smoke grenade launchers and a different machine gun. In 1983 it was sent to Hong Kong, and in 1993 it was sold off and imported into Australia. I have owned it since 2013.
Modifications
My focus has been on keeping the vehicle as original as possible, with considerable money spent on finding missing parts and accessories and reversing any modifications back to how it was in service. It is kept at the National Military Vehicle Museum in Edinburgh, SA.
