History
The 1983 CB1100FD was a 1 year only production model and featured Honda’s last >1,000 cc air cooled DOHC in-line 4 valves per cylinder 4 cylinder engine. The Australian delivered models, as this is, produced 81 kW or 115 hp and 97 NM/7500 RPM and were tested as the fastest production 1100 cc in 1983, a title they held until the release of the Honda VF1000F.
Having owned a 1981 CB900FA Bol D’or back in the early 1980s I had always hankered for it’s big brother, the 1100F.
This specific bike was in near new condition and had very low 22,000 kilometres, when purchased from the private collection of the principal of a Victorian motorcycle dealership. This person had owned the bike since 2002, about 14 years, and had purchased it; as he had owned a new one back in 1983 when he was an apprentice motorcycle mechanic. Although in VGC when he purchased it, with only 19,000 kilometres, he decided to refurbish it but got carried away. The engine received a full rebuild, new bearings, pistons, cam chain/guide, seals, clutch plates, chain, sprockets, forks and shocks overhauled etc. Basically anything that did not present “as new” got replaced with NOS or repaired. As such I basically purchased a new bike with only 3,000 kilometres of use. As a result this CB1100F runs super smooth, makes lots of useable power and goes exceedingly well. Apart from the exhaust system it is nuts and bolts correct. Fortunately I have a near new original CB1100F black chrome 4 into 2 exhaust system to go on the Honda, but it sounds so “sweet” with the 4 into 1 I doubt I will replace it anytime soon. Whilst it is not really my daily ride, it certainly is my regular ‘weekend and club day ride’.
Now sold to a Honda collector.
