History
The 1929 Doctors Coupe was a very rare car even in 1929 as Holden body works did not produce the closed coupe body so all coupes bodies for Essex were imported from Detroit. This car was found in 1989 on a property and my father and I spent 10 years restoring this coupe back to original condition. It is a delight to drive and was always intended as a city car or Doctors run about for home visits. The Essex company was eventually merged with Hudson which then was dropped as a product line when merged with Chrysler.The Essex was always known as a rather up market car with a build quality far better than a Ford of the era and so the price reflected that. The steel work and attention to detail is remarkable with so many high quality drop forged parts making up the braking system and suspension components.The wheels spokes are American Hickory and still 92 years later are still tight and very serviceable, hard to get quality like that these days.The Essex was a very durable car and one of the first vehicles to drive across the newly completed Sydney Harbour bridge was a 1928 Essex sedan.
