History
The car was originally sold in California. There is no history of who owned it until it was re-imported to Europe and bought by a German buyer who had the car re-specced to the previous European version with chrome plated bumper bars. By 1977 the Fiat Spider was almost exclusively sold in the US only. The engine was likewise re-built to European spec. An Abarth fan type exhaust manifold was fitted as were sports pistons and the European spec camshafts. This is the last of the carburettor versions. A Weber twin choke carburettor is fitted. This is the most powerful of all FIAT 124 Spiders built with 118 BHP. The car was brought to Australia as a private import and first registered 4th May, 2011.
Modifications
No further modifications to the ones done overseas were made after the car was imported into Australia. It has since gone through a bare metal re-spray and all suspension rubber bushes were renewed. A new Lada differential was fitted but the engine was not overhauled as it is in excellent condition, running clean and with practically no oil consumption even over long distances.
