History
Since my Fiat was a non-runner, I needed something to get around in. Dad mentioned a lady at his work was selling her Mk1 Escort 2 door. He didn't mention that her boyfriend, a mechanic, had told her to get rid of it...
The 1100 engine was so gutless it was slower than buses and semis at the lights. Just as well though, as the 4 wheel unassisted drum brakes didn't seem to do anything much. The pedal didn't actually move. (Dad swore that was normal for drums). It was a hoot to race along a twisty road though.
A lady friend threatened to name the car if I didn't. So I named her Bruce.
Modifications
When the 1100 engine blew up, the local garage could only find a 1400 to replace it with. Didn't think to upgrade the clutch though... It was kind of like an automatic after that. Put your foot down and wait for the speed to catch up with the revs. Along with the smell of burning clutch.
