History
The vehicle is a US import around 2005. I purchased it a little over two years ago from a small businessman in Melbourne. Being the start of Covid, lockdowns presented a number of hurdles to overcome (probably worth a paragraph or two on its own) in relation to viewing/inspection of the vehicle and subsequent transport of it to me on the central coast of NSW.
Modifications
"Back in the day" I owned an XT GT Falcon. I sold it after 4 years of ownership and have regretted it every day since. For years I have wanted to replace/replicate it and it was only a couple of years ago that I found myself in a position to do that but by then Falcon prices risen farther and further than a NASA spaceship. I made the decision to 'build my own'. As you can see from the photos I (with a lot of assistance) have completed the basics of a RHD conversion which includes an upgrade to later model steering components including power steering. All that's left to be done is re-wiring and assembly. All the mods to date have been engineer approved.
It is definitely a 'restomod'. The vehicle was originally drum braked but is now converted to 4-wheel discs. The original 289 is of unknown mileage but shows signs of poor quality workmanship with some significant oil leaks around the valley/inlet manifold. I have a late model Windsor 'roller' motor which I intend to fit at some stage which will sport a mild cam, GT40P heads, a 4 barrel Holley and a set of headers. One of the joys of my old GT was the top loader gearbox and I have a standard ratio top loader to go into this. The vehicle was manufactured with an 8 inch diff unlike the non GT Aussie V8's and I have made a ratio change to this along with a tru-track assembly to replicate the GT.
