The Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit series was produced in Great Britain in various forms from 1980 to 1998 and was a direct successor to the successful Silver Shadow and shared many components, including the basic floor pan and the 6.75 Litre V8 engine.
A new generation of vehicles was based on the Silver Spirit over its lifetime including the Silver Spur, Flying Spur, Silver Dawn and Touring Limousine models, plus Bentley models including the Mulsanne, Turbo, Eight and Brooklands.
The 1990 Model Year Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit II was introduced at the 1989 Frankfurt Motor Show. Although externally the car looked little different from the first series, there were numerous changes ’under the skin’ including the introduction of ’adaptive damping’ which would change the suspension’s setting automatically according to a number of factors including speed, throttle position, braking, longitudinal and lateral acceleration. A revised dashboard, improved sound system, alloy wheels (for the first time on a Rolls-Royce), automatic parking brake release, and hundreds of minor improvements completed the upgrade to take Rolls-Royce into the new decade. Only 1,152 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit II motor vehicles were produced.
