History
I purchased this car from a used car dealer in Adelaide in the 1980. The car was still in its original burnt orange with semigloss black paintouts and bonnet stripe. The side and rear decals where silver. The car was originally manufactured with walnut paintouts. The used car dealer had no idea it was a genuine GT as the car was missing the original 9" diff and rear disc brake assembly, so it looked like a faker (and believe me there where a lot of these around at the time!)
As the dealer did not know it was an original GT, I purchased it as an advertised Falcon coupe for the lowly price of just $3,500. Ha!
I spent quite a few years rebuilding the car (which had been bush bashed by the previous owner as the underside of the car looked like it had been in a ditch). The diff had been removed by the previous owner (either damaged when he ditched the car or taken for another project) and it had been replaced it with a pokey 8 inch borg warner unit. (The only thing I did not have time to replace before I sold it).
In 1982, I had the car repsprayed with 11 coats of Polar White and the engine bay was finished in semi gloss black to match the paintouts. The Mullins 8inch 12 slots looked great on the car and I later added tramp rods.
This vehicle still survives in 2017 with its original engine and has gone to a very good home where its being looked after and is currently being fully restored and repainted in its original burnt orange and walnut paintouts. It also has had the correct 9inch diff / disc brakes assembly refitted so long forward to seeing it back on the road.
Modifications
A fairly standard car when I had owned it, Holley 650 cfm carb. 8" Mullins 12 slots with bf goodrich 8" on front and 10" Torque Twisters on the rear. 4 speed manual, I had factory GT specification cloth inserts fitted. I purchased a new locking fuel cap (which was quite rare and expensive at the time). Most of the parts I purchased were from BS Stillwell Ford in Port Adelaide, including adding the passenger side door mirror.
The vehicle came factory equipped with the smaller 2V heads but actually out performed many 4V version motors on the street, very punchy. I removed the chrome wheel arches as they tended to harbour rust and also scraped the front tyre on occasion, I would have liked to have kept these on but adding wider tyres meant it was not practical.
I had a 10" SAAS steering sports wheel fitted, and as the car did not have any power steering you certainly gained muscles driving it.. I still have a copy of the original vehicle registration paper and VIN code with prefix: JG66
