History
1969 was the third year of Cadillac using a front wheel drive system - only on the Eldorado model. Unfortunately, this car needed the transmission rebuilt, not long after arriving here in Aus. While it was out, I also had the engine rebuilt. Since this is such an unusual set up, being a north-south front wheel drive, I thought I’d post some pictures so that you can all see how it fits together. The torque converter is bolted onto the flywheel, as normal, but it then has a chain drive that attaches it to the front of the tranmission itself, which is spun around 180 degrees and sits snuggled up next the engine. Officially, this is a Turbo 425 transmission, but really it is just a weird looking, bent out of shape Turbo 400! The diff then bolts directly to the transmission with the drive shafts connecting up to CV joints attached to the front wheels.
Memories
An unbelievable cruiser with a 472 motor pushing 375 hp through the front wheels! Awesome!
