History
The car that saved BMW. On the strength of the 700 Harold Quandt bought the technically bankrupt BMW so it would not be sold to Daimler-Benz and went on to fund the Neue Klasse cars from which the 3, 5, 6 and 7 series came. This example was built in 1964 in RHD form, sold to the UK market and imported to Australia some time later. In the later 70s early 80s it was used by a hairdresser in Deep Lead Victoria after which it was used by an elderly German as his daily drive until he died in 1986. It sat on blocks until sold in 1997 and recommissioned by 2000 and used intermittently. Sold again in 2005/6 to Canberra where it won best in show at German Autofest 2008. Sold in 2008/9, won best in show at BMW Clubs Australia Nationals 2009 and then went out of sight, being sold in 2011 and bought back again 2018. I bought it Dec 2018 with the intention of getting it to shows etc. Believed to be the only 700 on the road in Australia. There is a coupe version but it needs considerable restoration.
