History
Helped my parents purchase this car in 2011 from Utah, had a long wait and a lot of frustration getting the car here due to a useless shipping company.
It arrived in good condition thankfully and after a good going over and a wash we drove it about 700km home from Melbourne, stopping off at the Victorian Hot Rod show on the way......awesome show!!
The car is a Crestline Skyliner, of which there were only 13, 144 made in 1954. The model is a curious mix as the dash was not available here in Australia and used the first development of the new OHV motor with a capacity of 239ci. Suspension was also the first year in the US where they used ball joint suspension.
This car was supposedly only on the road for around 10 years, being garaged after the owner died and his wife left it unloved in the garage until the 80’s when it was purchased by a man intending to chop and rod it.
The man we bought the car off talked him out of it and swapped it for a Victoria coupe.
The swap took place around 4 years ago and was rebuilt by the previous owner in his garage, with body work and paint carried out along with a new interior.
The engine is an original with a 60’s era rebuild and still feeling strong.
The car is just beautiful, and besides some flaws that we are working towards fixing, it gets a lot of attention and looks seriously 50’s cool. I believe there are only a handful of these in Australia and we feel very lucky to be the custodians of such a rare car.
Modifications
This car is very original, with 15 inch black rims and radial tyres with the choice of full dress caps or dog dish caps. The greatest departure from stock are the retro style modern radio and seatbelts.
