Feb 2023 update:
We have started work on making the Raider drivable.
Five new tyres have been fitted to the original rims at great cost!!
The head is off and getting planed, while all pistons and rings look excellent with no lip to the bores. The valves are also in great condition and only required a lap to ensure a good seal.
Sump is off to be cleaned and the engine has been flushed with diesel.
Hoping to get it started and moving for the All British Day in Adelaide on the 5th of March '23.
Well we got it started the night before we were heading to Adelaide, the lights worked, the gen was charging, and after the smoke from all the inox sprayed into the cylinders had cleared we took it for it's first drive around the property in around 40 years.
The mirrored 4 speed had us stumped for a bit.
First is to the right and forward, 2nd is back, 3rd is to the left and up, 4th back.
Now we're back there are jobs to do, get the cowl mounts soldered back on to the radiator and get the crack in the head water jacket properly pinned.
In time, new tray cross sticks will be replicated in hardwood and a red gum board tray fitted but the cab will be left as is.
The old truck has a story to tell :)
