My R75/5 History
The R75/5 was originally purchased and delivered new to Kevin Whittaker in May 1973.
Delivery was carried out at the BMW Export Delivery facility in Munich.
Kevin holidayed and toured throughout Europe during that year on the bike. When he finished his European adventure Kevin returned home to Tasmania. The bike was shipped back to Australia then onto Tasmania to be reunited with its owner. The Tasmanian registration number was AX2792.
Kevin retained ownership of the bike until 1979. During those years it was used very little.
In 1979 Peter Butler took ownership of the bike. However Peter rarely used the bike and the registration expired 26th November 1979.
Peter sold/gifted the bike to a friend Brian Fitch.
Brian registered the bike as a Special Interest Vehicle 19/10/2006 registration number SI375. It remained registered until 19/10/2008.
Again Brian used the bike sparingly.
Around 2008 Peter Butler assumed ownership of the bike again with a view to restoration.
Peter rode the bike occasionally (unregistered as I have now established) until around 2013 at that time Peter found he had too many other competing interests so the bike was stored and wasn’t used at all between 2013-2016.
During its life up until August 2016 when I took ownership, the bike remained around George Town North West Tasmania (except for its original travels touring in Europe).
The owners Kevin, Peter, Brian and Peter again, were all close friends with similar interests living around George Town.
Check out my website for full story of the restoration to date.
