History
1937 Riley MPH Sprite
First imported into Sydney as a special order in 1938. This is the only Riley Sprite ever supplied with the MPH body! Later owned by Len Allen, an official of the Riley Car Club of N.S.W. The car was bought by Ross Griffiths, sometime prior to 1963. At this time the car was cream with tan trim! I purchased the car, totally dismantled and partially modified, in 1985 and have been working on the restoration off and on ever since! As of August 2014 the restoration is very nearly complete. I cannot wait to finally drive it!!
Modifications
While having work done to the woodwork and aluminium bodywork I had the cockpit enlarged so I can fit in the car. The original design was for jockeys I think!! I am sure anyone who has ever owned an MPH or Riley Imp will back me up on this!! I also had the guards/wings which were steel, and quite heavy, remade in aluminium. I have fitted a set of 15 inch E.R.A. type, rod actuated, magnesium brakes, which I manufactured from drawings obtained from Bill Morris, who raced ERAs in the UK and Australia. The modified bits have all been brought back to original Riley and no expense or effort has been spared in my efforts to get this beautiful car back on the road in all its former glory!
