History
Bought as a wreck. Full nut and bolt rebuild over 12 months. Motor has 12 K seemingly original miles. Replaced stock CV carbs with a bank of Keihin FCRs which improve torque out of sight. Did 12.6 1/4 mile at Geelong revival, 0.4 better than the race SP version. Don’t forget it’s a 31 year old 400. Historic rego but also used for the very odd track day. Breaks 200 Kph at Phillip Island. Handles like a knife. Front springs almost double stock stiffness with gold valves fitted. German Wilber’s rear shock. R1 brakes bolted straight on, one finger stoppies. Near concourse condition. Fast, light, a real giant slayer. Not many of these about anymore, most have been raced, thrashed, crashed. Probably too good to track day, but it makes a wicked, distinctive wail as it screams to the 15,500 RPM rev limiter that I just can’t let it sit unused. I have ten bikes including a Fireblade but this is my favourite, ‘cause it’s grouse to ride.
Modifications
Stock look. Carbs, no air box, fork springs and emulators, rear shock, R1 superbike brakes, modern Dunlop A14 sticky tyres.
