History
This is the original RA25 Celica that was imported in 1973 by Toyota/AMI. It was used for GT evaluation. The performance of the vehicle meant a higher insurance category, and as such the GT was not approved for import. That is why we only got the LT Celica back in the Seventies.
The RA25 Celica was the first liftback Celica model. The initial run went from April 1973 to December 1973. The second run went from January 1974 to November 1975. There are slight differences between the two manufacturing runs.
The RA25 was purely a JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) vehicle. Being the first Celica liftback makes it a valued vehicle in Japan. As it was never exported, it is a very rare vehicle outside of Japan.
The next model was the RA28, which was exported to numerous countries, including Australia.
This particular RA25GT came with the full GT option pack; power/tinted windows, air con, overhead warning lights, GT gauges and an LSD. It weighs 1040kg and the engine pulls 110kw.
It is a wonderful car to drive and it has never given me any trouble. It turns a few heads, which is great as these old retro-70 Jap cars are getting far and few between, and they look great.
