History
The Phoenix Rises!
My first car, bought at the age of 18 for $750. It had a front wing torn off, but with headlights on the bonnet it was legal after I made a tin mudguard. I saved up and bought a fibreglass front and it started to look OK - but wasn't exactly the chick magnet I expected... especially when raining. Socks stuffed along the top of the windscreen and folded newspapers between the windscreen and the dash!
My first car club event was a mud sprint and I did OK. Then came the MG Car Club's Lanac Park dirt circuit (pictured). But one day, coming home from an event, a drunk drove straight out in front of me and I t-boned him. I slipped out of my lap sash belt and my face hit the wheel. Couldn't afford to fix the horn so I had glued a nice plastic Austin badge in the centre... which I demolished with my face. (Pic attached) Woke up in the Royal Adelaide and spent a month there getting nurse's phone numbers.
Surprisingly I got some insurance money and the front was professionally rebuilt (pics attached). It looked brand new - until I went mad and fitted 1.5 inch SU's and discovered that I had to cut a hole in the bonnet to close it! Ah well, it was just the start of my "motorsport learnings".
Eventually I upgraded to an MGB (which DID attract the chicks) and after spending $5000 on the Sprite I sold it for.... $750...
Modifications
Roll over bar. 4-point harness (after hitting the steering wheel with my face). Fibreglass front. 1.5inch SUs (necessitating a power bulge...that looked like a slug...) Stupidly wide rear wheels that did little but break axles.
