History
This Indian Scout was bought from the Harry Beanham Auction on Saturday the 21st of March, 1998 in Sydney. Harry Beanham was the Patron of the Vintage Motorcycle Club of NSW and owner of ALLPARTS motorcycle stores in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. The story goes that Jack Forrest restored this original bike along with three x LE Velocettes in exchange for Harry's Rolls Royce. No money changed hands. Jack was a 1950s Aussie Continential Circus racer (usually BMW mounted) and whom Forrest Elbow at Bathurst's Mount Panorama Circuit is named after. Once the Velocettes were restored, Harry transported a Velocette to each ALLPARTS store in the three states. He had the Velocette in Sydney registered and when he travelled he removed the NSW rego plate, took it with him and used it on the LE Velocette in either Adelaide or Melbourne. Harry had an economical way of doing things.
After I purchased the Indian in 1998 at auction, a number of NSW Vintage MCC members asked if I knew that the bike had a cracked flywheel? No I didn't, though it seemed common knowledge to everyone else. Anyway, the bike ran well and eventually I rebuilt the engine with new flywheels (with two RHS x 741 flywheels) and the Indian has been club permited in Victoria for nearly 20 years and hasn't let me down yet (fingers crossed).
