History
This vehicle was first purchased by Frederick Joseph Densley in Ballan, Victoria and registered on 27 July 1926 with the B&W enamel Victorian plates number 1675. It was last fully registered in 1964 in Diamond Creek where it was garaged until 1971. Kevin Clarence of Keysborough purchased the Chevrolet and a full restoration began in 1973 which was completed in 1975. Its first outing, in its present condition, was to the Dandenong Valley Historic Car Club’s display at the Dandenong Show in November 1975.
In 1998 the 1926 Chevrolet was sold to Steve Dwyer of Newry (via Maffra) Victoria, then to Harcourt Victoria, before being purchased by the Museum.
The external push rod, overhead valve 171 cubic inch four cylinder engine, 4” bore x 4¼” stroke, developed 26 horsepower with a single dry plate clutch and a three speed gear box to convert power to the wheels.
The brakes are external bands acting on 11” diameter drums on the rear wheels only. The hand brake operated internal bands.
Now an exhibit in the Trafalgar Holden Museum.
Five body styles went on sale: Roadster with “Dickie” seat, Tourer, Coupe, two door Coach, and four door Sedan.
Front and rear bumper bars were optional.
