History
This Australian build 1970 Mk II Mini Cooper S was rescued from oblivion and following a 5 year restoration is now resplendent in the condition as it would have left the showroom in January 1970. Following its purchase by the current owner in 1991, it went into storage until the restoration began in earnest in 2016. All the period features have been restored with the addition of some safety features such as inertia reel seat belts, tinted banded laminated windscreen and a fuel cut off safety switch. All mechanicals have been fully rebuilt to original specifications, while the capacity of the engine is now about 1310 cc due to full mechanical restoration which including all other mechanical components. Care was taken to ensure that the car is as original as possible. It now presents, in all aspects, as it did when new.
Modifications
Care was taken to return the vehicle to as near as practical to the features and condition as it would have been built in 1971. Only modifications were period Smiths Tachometer, Inertia reel seat belts, safety switch. Genuine MiniLite wheels were fitted (original drilled 4 1/2 x10 steel wheels and hub caps have been fully restored and remain with the vehicle). During the restoration, the colour was change from one colour Cameno Gold to Sandown Red with Crystal white roof, a classic colour combination from the era.
