History
Purchased in 1969 of a work colleague, it had been used as a rally car and had some suspension improvements such as decent telescopic shocks.
Attached twin carbs and extractor exhaust and proceeded to drive it faster than sensible until the engine self destructed.
Purchased a 1600 engine form a 1962 Super Minx and installed it with improvements
Sold it and purchased a MK VII Jaguar which quickly failed to impress me.
My first Californian, I am currently driving my third which I have owned for 22 years.
It also has a 1600 engine but an alloy head version from a 1966 Humber Vogue fitted with Weber, warm cam and assisted by adding an overdrive.
Modifications
The replacement 1600 engine was rebuilt with a race cam, twin downdraught carburetors off a Vauxhall these looked like the original Zenith but were 30VIG model with 28mm venturiis, extractor exhaust, not to much muffler,
A later addition was a worked high compression head with Jaguar inlet valves and very heavily modified porting and combustion chamber shape.
Suspension was lowered 3 inches and heavier sway bars installed to make it ride better.
A very fast car with an unburstable engine that frequently was revved way past 7000 rpm.
