Rally/Race car 1979 Mazda RX7 Series 1 Savannah
History
This car qualifies as PRC class (Production Rally/Race Car) and currently qualifies under AASA / GEAR category for track events.
This is one of the first RX7’s released in Australia and developed for racing and rallying.
The current owner, Phillip Taylor, purchased the car in 1993 and had it ground up rebuild for mostly dirt road rally events.
The car under the current owner has competed in numerous FIA, CAMS, AASA and AMSAG events such as;
NSW Rally championship, Southern Cross Rally Series, AMSAG Masters Rallies, Bega Valley Rally, Batemans Bay “Bay Stages”, Bathurst/Sunny Corner, Mt Panorama, Wilby Park, Wakefield Park, Cootamundra Sprints etc.
Specifications
Motor – New race motor built and installed Feb 2021.
Rotary 12A Turbo. (Carburettor fitted)
Bridge ported.
Blue printed.
“N” series rotors.
Balanced rotation assembly.
Face clearanced rotors.
13B rotor housings machined to 12A CNC.
Factory side seals.
Power Apex seals.
Power seals conor seals with ser6 conor springs.
Carburettor – Weber 48 mil downdraft.
Air filter – K @ N Housing with Finer filter for dusty rally conditions.
Air rams for track.
Clutch – Heavy duty brass race clutch.
Gearbox – Mazda 12A Turbo gearbox imported from Japan.
Differential – 4.8 to 1 LSD imported from USA.
Exhaust system –
Dual 2” extractors connected to 2 x 2” thru pipes mandrel bent over the diff to a Rotaflow75mm repackable race muffler rated at 800 degree exiting a 3” Rotaflow droop tip.
Brakes - Standard with heavy duty purpose cut race race Discs/Pads.
Hydraulic secondary hand brake.
Spark Plugs – NGK Race plugs – R6724-115.
Fuel pump – Carter high capacity drag race pump.
Cooling system –
Upgraded high capacity thermostatic fans attached.
Roll cage - Uniquely engineered to fit a small cabin space.
CAMS and AASA approved.
Fuel – The car is rallied and raced using a fuel mix of Premium 98 plus Octane boost plus Idemitsu Racing Rotary oil at 100:1.

Hotwire race rims 13 x 7 with KUMHO 215 x 50 x 13 slick tyres
or
15 x 6 Superlite heavy duty competition race/rally rims with road legal “Federal” road slick soft compound.
Rally
Superlite heavy duty competition race/rally rims 15 x 6 with Falken 185 x 65 x 15 soft compound dirt rally tyres.
Front steer tyres Falken 165 x 65 x 15 (Mud)
Weight - In rally set up with sump guards, Driving lights etc 950kgs.
In track set up 900kgs.
Seating - Sparco competition seats fitted for both driver and navigator.
Safety harness –
Sabelt full race harness for both driver and navigator.
