History
This is a Chinese built BMW called a Chang Jiang M1M 750cc side valve boxer engine. It is a 1981 model with electric start. It was apparently imported with 10 others and brought to Mount Isa where the owner had difficulties getting registered with the local RTA staff showing a dislike to imported older vehicles. It was left languishing in the open for a few years before being offered to me as a parts bike for my Dnepr. Other than the worn out pistons, very few parts fitted, and as parts are readily available from sidecarpro in Hong Kong, I decided to restore it.
Modifications
Local paint shop couldn't match the Mongolian desert paint scheme so I opted for the Australian Tanami Beige.
Aftermarket disk brakes were fitted to the front to make it stop.
Dunlop K-70 tyres replaced the Chinese tyres.
