History
DKW, which had once been the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world in the 1930s, was a late jumping on the post-war scooter and moped craze. They introduced the Hummel in 1957 and was the first moped in the market with a 3 speed gear shift. However, 1957 was also the peak of moped sales and things went downhill from there. In 1958 DKW sold its moped and scooter division to Zweirad Union and concentrated on cars.
This moped was imported from Holland by its original owner in the 1960s. He sold it but many years later after he retired he decided to embark on a nostalgic restoration project and went looking for a DKW. The DKW he found was his original Hummel, so he bought it and restored it. After he decided to downsize his collection I picked it up to compliment my DKW car collection.
