History
This car is a part of our family and history. My husband bought the hatch when he was only 17 years old and I was 19 yrs old when I started dating him, as an owner of a black four door Torana also. The Torrie was orange originally and my hubby did the first restoration with a pearl white paint job / black bonnet and spent $10K having the 308 worked. Over the years we drove it as a daily drive vehicle and I even used it as my mobile hairdressing car after we painted it black with blue bits the next paint job he had. We always refer to our Torana as a "he" or our "boy".
We had some issues with rust starting to appear and decided 8 years ago to take him off the road and do a full restoration. The motor was getting tired too, so we extended the mortgage and got John Pilla at Powerhouse Engines to build our 355 stroker approx 6 years ago and picked him up from 18mths at a friend's place for the body work and paint. As we are getting up near 50 now, we decided to take the manual gearbox out and add the auto, so we didn't have to use the heavy duty clutch anymore and changed the wheels from hotwires to the mags we have now. Most everything is new this time around including interior trims, carpet, door seals etc. Both myself and my husband like our muscle cars tough, so original is not our thing. We got the vinyl wrap and did the dash and fire wall ourselves....after the engine was finished and body work....we did not have the time or money to pay someone, to put it all back together. It was February this year that we finally both had some annual leave together and got into it ourselves. We have worked our guts out doing everything ourselves to put him back together and add our personal touches. Then we finally turned the key and took it to get a whole new exhaust system recently. The photos I took myself over the last two days and these were our first decent drives in our boy since his latest makeover.
My intentions are to start a new hobby, taking him to local shows when they start up again. As we insured our boy with Shannons this year, I saw the ad for the online show n shine and thought it was perfect timing to kick off our new beginnings. We hope you like what we have done and what a coincidence that our colors match. ;-)
