History
The car is in remarkable original condition considering I am the 8th (registered) owner. Furthermore, it has purely been owned and registered in South Australia. I received with the car, a folder containing the provenance of the vehicle including (some) registration and insurance documents, service and mechanical repairs receipts throughout its ownership, including the original owner’s manual. The car was originally delivered by Paramount Motors Ashford (Adelaide) on 27th April 1962 to a Mr. G.T. Goss of East Glenelg. It was delivered with a dealer exclusive body 'Tilli Flash' trim pack including green shark-fin fender ornaments and a chrome falcon bird bonnet mascot, unique to the XK falcon as an accessory for a cost of £3.14.The car was sold by Mr. Goss to 2nd owners Donald & Lena Jacobs of Woodville Gardens SA on the 18th April 1986. I have little history of the car during the Jacobs’ ownership except the original registration transfer document and a couple of temporary registration certificates used for changes of address (Mallala and Pt. Clinton) and what seems a club run with the Adelaide Antique Auto Club on 18/7/87. The 3rd owner of the car was a Mr. Douglas Ernest Short (of Gawler) whom acquired the car around March 1990 and was a family friend of Donald & Lena Jacobs. I have only one service receipt and a couple of temporary registration certificates of Mr. Short with its history. I have recently contacted Doug, as I found an article with his contact details in the ‘Can You Help’ section of the SA Sunday paper from 16/6/15 Doug informed me he had the front seat resprung & re-trimmed from material sent from USA. Doug bought the car purely to drive on club runs and subsequently only registered it temporarily for one day periods accordingly. Doug Short disposed of the car to its 4th owner, a Mr. Justin Carmody (of Salisbury Downs) on 19th October 1992 for $4500. It was advertised in a local newspaper for sale for $5000 to be viewed at the Mallala SA swap meet on Sunday 20th September 1992. Justin informs me he saw it and instantly ‘had to have it’. He said the distinctive ‘Tilli flash’ down its sides instantly appealed to him as he’d ‘never seen one before’(with the flash). The first odometer reading since its first owner was recorded here in a pre-purchase RAA inspection report at 41,271 miles
Mr. Carmody was the most fastidious of all its owners, spending a considerable amount of money getting the car in top condition mechanically. He kept a ‘dossier’ on every facet of the vehicle, which I possess. Justin Carmody sold the car to its 5th owner, Mr. K.W.P Fletcher (of Tea Tree Gully) on 26th May 1996, The chronological order of receipts show the last repair (radiator) Justin Carmody done on the car was 5th of February 1996 with the odometer at 59,000 miles. Mr. Fletcher’s records are only a couple of receipts with the last dated 30th June 1999 with an odometer recording at 66,000miles. Mr. K Fletcher sold the car to its 6th owner, Mr. Bill Cummings of Swan Reach SA on the 20th April 2000 for $4500. Its 7th owner, Robert Hannaford a car collector of Naracoorte SA purchased the car around 2002 from Mr. Cummings with roughly 75,200 miles on the odometer. Robert put the car into his car collection, being only registered once for a short time in 2006. He sold it to me in July 2015 with 75, 500 miles on the odometer.
It took me 6 months, but I have tracked down all previous owners of the car and documented every phone call/meeting and email, which makes for quite a story. I have even got a photo of the first owner, Mr Goss whom would have been 111 years old this year. I have also documented the intricate story of how I found the car and subsequently purchased it. **Please note, all photos were taken by me
