History
Car was purchased from UK gentleman who moved here to Melbourne and brought car with him with intension to do it up
I have worked on the car for approx. four years now, mainly body as I have left the motor and engine bay with just a clean up with new hoses, belts and filters along with a new fuel pump which is basically half the engine and cost as much a an engine.
There is approx eight. mk1 caddies here, six of them are the earlier US cars manufactured from 1981 to 1984and the other UK in Vic is not registered yet.
The ute version of the Mk1 Golf was made in USA 1981 to 1984, them made in Yugoslavia between 1985 and 1992 and then in South Africa between 1993 and 2007 when it ceased production.
This car was originally a maintenance car at Heathrow Airport and was painted with 5 coats of enamel red over the original white so it took a lot of stripping and work before we could paint it again as well as the rear bed had an old plywood lining screwed in so when removed the original steel floor was totally rusted.
Modifications
The only modification made I have made is returning everything to original from the factory
The car had an orange revolving light on it's roof so I had to remove all that and return the wiring behind the dashboard back to original layout.
Even the original radio that dose not work has been re-installed all thought all wiring and antenna cables are there ready for a new radio
The vinyl from the original door cards where were stripped by hand and reglued to new copy back boards and seats including original upholstery
where all rebuilt from approx 3 sets of older seats, remembering there is no parts available for these here so all parts had to come from UK and Europe.
