History
I imported the car in 1992 from San Francisco. It was originally owned by a doctor in Honolulu and spent some years there, which is probably why I had to do a fair bit of rust repair. Back to metal respray in mid 90’s. Re-trimmed and re-upholstered in early 2000’s.
Modifications
When I bought it, it had a 1.7 litre engine that had been enlarged to 1.91 litres. The fuel injection had been replaced with two 40 mm down draught Webers. One of those carbies had to be replaced with a new one, due to internal corrosion. The other was rebuilt. The throttle linkages looked as if they had been cobbled together from yacht rigging, so they were replaced by custom ones designed and fitted by Carburettor Services, Croydon NSW. Other modifications that I made include fitting of front calipers from a BMW 320, a free-flow exhaust system, stiffened shocks, and a custom roll cage. After competing in the 1999 Lactos tarmac rally, I rebuilt the engine and at the same time enlarged it to 2.05 litres by using a 2 litre crank and a big bore kit. Currently laid-up awaiting its second restoration.
