History
This model is one of the first of Suzuki's renowned UJM's (universal Japanese motorcycle) to be imported to Australia. This term was applied to large capacity, naked (unfaired) Japanese-produced motorcycles that were by design "multi-purpose" machines - equally capable of a daily commute to work, a spirited weekend ride or a long-distance tour loaded up with pillion and luggage.
Released to the world in 2001, they were originally not destined for the Australian or Canadian markets. However after it's release and subsequent worldwide success, significant local pressure demanded the second generation be imported to Australia in 2002.
Enjoying strong sales until emission laws forced them to be discontinued in 2009, these iconic road bikes were viewed by many riders and industry representatives to be the "best in class" (among such distinguished competition as the Yamaha XJR, Honda CB, and later the Kawasaki ZRX).
Although good examples of all year models are becoming difficult to acquire, the original and brand-specific blue/white scheme seen here are now quite rare.
Other than some minor marks expected on an original (not restored) bike of this age, it is in immaculate condition.
Modifications
Relatively minor "performance" modifications include the Suzuki "PAIRS" system being removed, Iridium spark plugs, ignition advancer, DNA air filter, and period correct Staintune mufflers (with baffles removed)
Dyno results show these alterations yield slightly higher power and torque figures than OEM spec, despite the bike having travelled almost 90,000kms!
To improve the handling and steering capabilities of what is quite a big, heavy bike the front forks have been rebuilt, front end lowered 10mm, new 25mm longer YSS rear shocks have been fitted, and the entire suspension has been tailored to suit the current riders weight and riding style.
Other personal touches include Renthal Fatbar "Street Low" handlebars, stainless micro-led indicators, rear guard, low-profile mirrors, chain and radiator guard, with much of the bright metal features finished in gloss black for effect.
