History
1976 Datsun 260z 2+2
This is a class winning, (2012 Victorian Hillclimb Championship Marque Sports 2001cc and above winner) log booked well sorted car.
I started in 2010 with this car not having raced before as it was pretty much ready to go. It was a competitive rally car with a rally setup so I converted/upgraded what I needed to tarmac spec.
Suspension, wheels and tyres, additional engine mods were done along with a bit of a tidy up and I entered the remainder of the 2010 Victorian Hillclimb Championship. I ended breaking a couple of things such as gearbox and diff mount pretty early on and quickly beefed those up. Gearbox was replaced with another HR30 type and the diff mount was replaced with a gearbox mount & cross member with encapsulated bush from Stewart Wilkins Motorsport.
At the beginning of 2011 I had the motor stripped down and rebuilt by M&W Engine Services in Ballarat - www.mwengineservices.com.au and they did a fabulous job. We added a few new items - baffled alloy sump from Arizona Z, new timing gear and HD tensioners from Kameari, alloy radiator and electric water pump and a few new gauges. At this point I also added the new wider Performance rims and Advans - 15 x 8 for the rear with 225/50 and 15 x 7 for the front with 205/50. I also went to the softer compound which changed the whole dynamics of the car for the better.
In 2011 with a sorted car I came second in the Victorian Hillclimb Championship and participated in other events such as Myrniong Sprints - 1st place and Legend of the Lakes - 3rd place.
The car was very sorted by then and very strong and very reliable.
In 2012 we upgraded the clutch and replace the gearbox again with an SR20DET with a short shift - this changed the gearing a smidge and is a perfect fit.
We won the 2012 Victorian Hillclimb Championship with a clean sweep - won all rounds except the first - which had to be dropped anyway as part of the scoring for the year. I also participated in the 2012 Myrniong Sprints and came 1st also breaking the class record that was previously held by a 240z. I also tried my hand at a Phillip Island Sprint and managed a best time of 2.01 which is a great effort first time out - I had fuel starvation issues coming onto the straight as well - that is now sorted with a fuel surge tank and dual fuel pump setup.
I attended the 2012 Australian Hillclimb Championships at Bathurst and came fourth in class - an amazing event on hallowed ground.
2013 has been a great year taking out the Victorian Hillclimb Championship for a second year again in marque sports and have also just completed the 2013 Legend of the Lakes hillclimb and came first in class with a 58.3 time up the 1.4 km hill.
