History
My 1929 Ford is a Roadster it is named Henrietta....it started out as
a company car for the
Rawleigh's Cosmetics company ,in South Australia, Australia. It was
then sold to Digger Ledger who used it for a while as
his means of transport. He then gave it to his son in
law Bill Gardiner and after a while it was sold to Ray
Mullen,(2nd cousin to my mum) for $30 Aust, it was then used for
rabbitting and kangaroo shooting .My father swapped a Norton motor
cycle for the car in 1960 with intentions of hot rodding
it. When I was about 3 years old I smashed the
glasses and distributor and also put dirt in the petrol tank so the
car could
not be sold. In 1975 Dad & I started the restoration...The Car was
really in very bad shape the wooden flooring in the back had all
rotted away, you could see the road, the left wheel arch was
completly rusted away and all the body avbove the valance panels was
rusted out to a height of aprox 6 inches and we had to replace the
front cross member as the original was almost non existent.
It was completed in 1981,all tasks undertaken by
us except the upholstery and chroming.
Henrietta was stripped down and repainted by my dad and myself in 1998
It has attended many rallies and also 5 national meets. The car has
been driven to Alice Springs and Ayre's Rock and recieved the
coveted "Overlander Badge" in 1995.
In May 2004 I relocated to Melbourne and I left the car in the
custody of my parents and in 2006 they drove it to Melbourne, a
distance of 900 Miles (1000kms)averaging 20 mpg. Since the car has
been here I have used it regularly and have even won 5 Trophies
for 'Best Vintage Car'
