History
I purchased this Monaro In 1983 from a local car dismantler (wrecker) in the ACT. At the time I was looking for another car to drive to and from work, preferably a HQ model or later, but I couldn’t find anything in my price range. Although I wasn’t really looking for something as old and tired looking as this HG 2 door Coupe I ended up buying it, because the price was right. Despite the fact that the Monaro was well worn (some said worn-out) and the motor and driveline had been replaced with various components from other Holden models, it still drove quite well (apart from some rear brake lock-up) and got me to and from work, as intended.
Initially, I had planned on keeping the Monaro until I could afford to trade up, however, I subsequently found out that it was originally a V8 Auto GTS model and because it only needed minor body work, was rust free, and didn’t require too much mechanical work (I thought) I decided that I would keep it – and so the project began.
