History
This early Australian delivered vehicle was extensively campaigned by previous owners in local motorsport events in Queensland and NSW. After having an average quality restoration undertaken in the early 1980’s the vehicle continued to live a hard life, finally finding its way into my garage in the late 1990’s.
This 356 sat in my garage for over 10 years before I was ready to deal with it. It is currently undergoing a full restoration which to date has included a new front clip, new bonnet, new front bumper, new battery-box and gas tank floor, new inner & outer front right fender, new right door, new inner & outer right rear fender and the rear clip extensively rebuilt. In addition to the usual replacement of the floors, sills and other substructure.
As at October 2013 the progress on the Body has been substantial, with the work now concentrating on relocating the front indicators and vents and the installation of the new headlight buckets. There is a good chance that the Body will be ready for paint preparation by the end of this year.
While work on the body is progressing, focus has turned on having parts cleaned, restored and sub-assembly completed ready for installation. The hunt for missing parts continues but we should be in a position to at least bring the car to a lockable rolling shell after it has been painted.
The gearbox is currently under going a complete rebuild with all the best parts available while all the running gear is just about there having been sand blasted, powder coated and partially assembled ready to offer up to the body.
December 2013 and the car is back on its wheels while we fit up all the hardware to ensure it fits and looks right before we strip it again and commence preparing the body for paint.
January 2014 and the 356 is heading to Melbourne for some specialist work such as the fitment of the forward oil coolers (including the ducting), oil lines, roll bar, and aluminium GT Speedster seats before it heads back to the garage to be stripped for paint preparation.
We would like to be able to show the car at the next Annual Porsche 356 Parade in Melbourne in Late November 2014. Weâll see how things progress, otherwise there is always next year!
