History
This vehicle was acquired in 1973 and after transplanting the motor etc. from my '69 Corolla I was able to go racing at the next level. Unfortunately, after two years in the pursuit of faster quarter mile elapsed times this eventually led to blowing the engine to pieces on the start line at A.I.R....Not Good!!
In 1978 I started again - this time with an emphasis on more reliability. A good 179ci Holden motor was 'given the treatment' and bolted to a Chrysler 3-speed Torque-flight gearbox with a (pre-select) 'Clutch-flight' conversion. Thankfully I had good people helping out with the project - not to mention a good boss who let me use his workshop after hours! Also the drag racing fraternity in S.A. were very helpful and I was grateful for that at the time.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I had my 'Day at the Track' in 1980 when the car ran a best e.t. of 12.3/105mph 'off the trailer'. The car was then sold to a guy from NSW and was never heard of again - although it would have been nice to have followed up on its progress eh?......Mike
