History
Ford Thunderbolt recreation based on a Fairlane 500 2-door sedan, the only genuine factory drag car built by Ford in conjunction with DST to qualify for NHRA super stock racing which Ford won in 1964. Only 100 cars were built, 11 x Vintage burgundy and 89 x Wimbledon white.
Ford lost approximately $2,000 on each vehicle and required purchasers to sign a waiver at time of sale.
Modifications
Stock body with modified front shock towers and engine tube to fit 427FE with 2x4 intake, forced air induction (Headlamp delete) and tubular headers. Advertised (Under rated) at 425hp & 480 ft/lb torque;
Close ratio, fine spline Borg Warner (Galaxie) T10 4sp manual transmission with Hurst shifter and NHRA approved aluminium scattershield;
9" differential, 4.56:1 'N' nodular iron with 31 spline Detroit Locker;
DST ladder bars with driveshaft safety loop;
Crites subframe connectors;
4 x wheel HD drum brakes;
OEM steel wheels with bias ply tyres (Factory slicks);
Econoline van (Bostrum) bucket seats;
Cross flow radiator (Galaxie);
Fibreglass hood & front fenders;
Trunk mounted battery; and
SW electric fuel pump.
