History
My wife's first car, what started as a gearbox "repair" turned into a 6 year project. The car was a second owner. 1500cc 4speed on the tree! First "modification" was to fit a floor shift. The 1500 went pop when that had a un-noticed oil pressure loss when the oil pressure gauge line failed, so the next replacement was a 1600 cross-flow with weber.. A gearbox problem then prompted a possible update to a 5speed. Now the fun begins.
Modifications
Cheaper to fit a complete engine and gearbox combo than adapting a 5speed to the Ford motor. A low mileage Toyota 18GRU and 5speed was purchased. Then an engineer was needed. Upgrade to brakes from a V6 Capri, duel master ( Mazda) proportioning valve ( Holden) Front and rear inline power boosters (that's right two) Boy could this thing stop now! The differential was standard Mk1Cortina but with 3.9 GT gears. 140BHP from the 2litre twin cam and the car only tipping the scales at 850kg, it used to give the Brock Group A a good run up to 100kph.
