History
The TD Sports 2000 was an idea by a Sydney based company to build a replica of the MG TD. They approached MG at the time who had just sold to BMW and were given the OK providing they did not use the MG Logo on any part of the car. Thus it is named TD. TD 2000 Pty. Ltd. originally sold a few models before selling the company to a Gisborne firm who went on to sell another 70-80 under the TD 2000 Pty. Ltd. name.
In 1998 a Malaysian based company with a group of Australian businessmen, took over the ownership and became TD Cars (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. All manufacturing equipment and the last TD built in Australia were shipped to Malaysia, where they are still produced today.
This last TD was the first to have a Toyota motor fitted and was used as a demonstration model in Malaysia until the early 2000's when it was fully reconditioned and sold as new to a gentleman in New Zealand.
This gentleman drove the car for a couple of years in NZ before retiring and returning to SA with the car. Now in his 70's, he and his wife decided to trade in TD on a new Mazda and thus TD became ours.
