History
In 2015 I purchased my first Beetle after wanting one since I was a boy. That Beetle was rusty and full of hidden surprises. It gave its life to save many other Bugs. I then built a 1970 standard Beetle.
I saw this car sitting on the side of the road, advertising Kayaks - I said to my partner - "If that car ever comes up for sale, we should buy it." Many months later - while still working on my '70 Bug - it popped up on eBay for $4500. I bought the car for $4000. The car was originally brown, then green and the owner I had purchased it off painted it with a brush and roller.
My partner and I got engaged and decided to have it restored/restomodded for our wedding. There was a number of hidden surprises including rust and a large hidden dent - blowing our budget by double. I have a contact who was a trimmer by trade - and offered to retrim the Porsche seats (which I purchased cheap as they were in poor condition), as well as the original door cards and rear seats in cream/tan leather to match.
Finishing it in a rush, just 2 days before our ceremony. After getting the car back, it made it to the wedding (just), however, broke down on the way home (turned out to be a loose throttle cable). It then had a couple of trips and had a complete electrical failure - resulting in more money being spent, and a whole new wiring loom being installed by a auto-electrical trained friend and myself.
Now it is back on the road and loving its rebirth - a fresh start again after an eventful 50 years on the road. Here's to another 50!
