History
The 2006 book “In Search of The Holden Piazza”, Chris Warr and Joe Kremzer chronicled a journey from Tasmania all around mainland Australia in search of the fabled vehicle of which only 200 were shipped to Australia and sold under the GMH banner.
‘The Dentists Piazza’ was noted as the best example discovered on their journey.
The Holden Piazza you are viewing is that car and just ticked over 100,000ks on the way to its placement at Whiteman Park Motor Museum.
Designed for Isuzu by the famous Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro as a concept called ‘’Asso Di Fiori’ (The Ace of Clubs) in 1973, the Piazza was well ahead of its time with its Italdesign flush fitting windows, fixed headlights with pop-up covers, lack of rain channels and aircraft-like instrument cluster.
The concept vehicle was quickly put into production by Isuzu with the first JR models rolling off the line in 1980.
The 1986 Holden Piazza and its 4ZC1 turbo engine was GMH’s first foray into turbo power along with the VL Commodore in the same year.
