History
The Spitfire was the fastest production motorcycle in the world back in 1966, one tested at 197kph (123mph) My bike has had only four previous owners (I have original documents to verify them all) and the bike had done less than 3,500 miles when I bought it. How could this be, you ask? Well, it spent most of its life stored, dismantled, in an attic in Cornwall, UK.
My understanding is that owner #3 crashed it but couldn’t afford to repair it so stored it, intending to get around to fixing it “…one day. “ That day did not dawn for over forty years.
The bike was only restored in 2019 by owner #4. The bike was purchased by myself and exported to Australia in March 2020.
Note the black and white photo! This was the first owner on board, probably just after taking delivery of his new road burner.
Modifications
The original troublesome GP carbs have been replaced by Amal Concentrics (a common modification), electronic ignition, Thunder billet steel conrods, SRM oil pump and pressure relief valve, SRM clutch, and many other new parts. The original fibreglass fuel tank (prone to leaking) was replaced with a UK- made 5 gallon alloy tank in same style as original.
