History
I first took possession of the car in 1996. Originally a 3.3L inline 6-cylinder power-train, in 1998 a reconditioned 5.0L equivalent power-train was introduced.
In 2001, the decision to rebuild the entire car, from the ground up was made and work commenced on upgrading the entire power-train.
The 5.0L motor was completely rebuilt, incorporating a Harrob 355-stoker crank, Crane performer crank and fuel-injected alloy heads. Balanced and blue-printed this relatively unassuming motor complete with Pacemaker headers and Harrob performer intake manifold produces more than 400Hp and 550Nm of torque.
The original 3-speed Holden automatic transmission was replaced with a Chevrolet Turbo 350 Hydromatic equivalent with 2,750rpm B&M stall converter and stage 2 shift kit. Complete with Holden modified fully-rebuilt high-performance Ford 9-inch limited-slip differential (1:3.55 ratio) allowing power and torque to be reliably delivered to rear wheels.
The original brake system was completely upgraded with dual plenum brake booster, inch bore master cylinder, 4-wheel disc breaks, incorporating hi-performance cross-drilled and grooved DBA sports rotors and Ultima brake pads.
The entire body was sandblasted to bare metal, panel-beaten, aligned, primed and painted in stock white with black Holden surrounds.
The entire suspension and power-steering rack-and-pinion, were replaced with new custom designed Pedders Sports equivalent, including heavy-duty stabiliser bars and bushes.
The interior was completely gutted and restored in luxurious blue velour and timber detailing. The dash was completely rewired and fitted with a simple Kenwood surround sound stereo system.
A mandrel-bend 2.5 inch exhaust system still affords a deep throaty note, combined with real power and torque equal to the more modern Commodore equivalents, veiled under a relatively unassuming stock-like appearance makes this classic restoration the "ultimate sleeper."
