History
I bought this '61 Aussie delivered Karmann Ghia 1 year ago from Gosford NSW. It had been owned for 16 years by a woman who moved from Qld to Sydney where it had a quality outer respray in its original colours of Bamboo and black about 8 years ago, it also has its original interior apart from a carpet kit.
I've owned over a dozen pre-67 Volkswagens but had always dreamed of a Ghia, having decided in my 20's I'd save it for my 50's... it was time.
Modifications
I love dubs lower and faster than factory spec and couldn't wait to 'u*****' this baby with a 4.5" narrowed, adjustable front torsion beam with 2.5" drop spindles, BRM style wheels, short throw shifter and 1776cc engine. These parts were swapped from one of my poor beetles. I've converted the clock to a tachometer and fitted usb charger under dash.
The engine features a chromoly counter-weighted crank, Engle 110 cam and Empi heads with 40mm inlet and 35.5mm exhaust valves. Carbs are Weber style (Penrose) 40mm.
