History
My dad, Lou Schapel, bought the Morris 8/40 for me when I was 15... he figured I couldn’t get into much trouble in such a slow car! I helped him to restore it, and I spent many hours on the Singer sewing machine making piping for the doors, etc, many hours rubbing down between coats of paint, which Dad did himself with our Electrolux vacuum cleaner. We painted it red and called her ’The Red Terror’ after one of his early cars as a young man. I learned to drive in it, went for my licence at 16 in it. I remember the police officer’s hat blew off as we took off and I had to do a u-ee, perfectly of course, to go back and get it! I took her on many a car club run, to many a party, with friends not only in the passenger seat, but also in the ’dicky seat’ in the back... got picked up once for that!
Dad and I resprayed her black, can’t remember when, so she became ’The Black Terror’. She has been registered/driven on and off many times over the years, the last 45 with myself.
But she now needs some attention... new paint, tounaut restitched, new tyres, etc... but the engine is good. I briefly thought about selling her to someone who would care for her, but have decided to restore her myself, in time. Such a simple, little car... how hard could it be?!!!!!!! lol
Modifications
We enlarged the back window, for safety.
I wanted to super-charge her, but Mum wouldn’t let me!
