History
After responding to an advertisement in the classifieds in The Age newspaper, I ended up on a farm on the outskirts of Melbourne to find the 1954 MG TF 1250, aside from the chassis, was in boxes! It was from there that the challenge and dream began about 40 years ago, although as a business owner it wasn’t until I retired about 10 years ago that I had the time to fully start restoring my TF.
The TF had pride of place in my shed. When they visited, family and friends would regularly ask how the restoration was going and up until 10 years ago all I had to show them was the chassis and wheels with the sparkling trademark MG grill that I had re-chromed.
Before I could start the restoration, I first had to do a lot of research, with all parts, panels, bolts, everything but the chassis in a box. I had to determine where they all went, and if anything was missing, before I could put it together. Once I identified what I had and what I needed, I then had to source any missing parts … this meant many late night/early morning calls to the UK and USA where I imported some of the missing parts from. My first drive of my completed MG TF was in 2009!
