History
This Holden Monaro was purchased from Deighton Motors, Warwick by my uncle and aunt on the 5th August 1970. It remained in their ownership until 2012. It is essentially unrestored with general maintenance having been done.
The first enquiries on the new Holden were made at the dealership in Allora, though they were unable to supply a Monaro. They offered the uncle a very good deal on a new HT sedan ($500 less), but he refused and waited for the “new” model HG Monaro. Their new vehicle was not going have “those awful strips across the top and down the sides of it”, was not going to have “little slits” in the sides and was to have little chrome. A white standard Monaro was ordered from Deightons, and was the first HG Monaro built in Brisbane. Unfortunately, that vehicle fell off the hoist. This vehicle is the second one built (Sudan Beige) and it is thought that only a few base model coupes were produced in Brisbane at that time. Luckily, it too had the required 186S motor coupled with a 4-speed opel gearbox and disc brakes. The HG was released on 26th July 1970. This vehicle was delivered on 5 August 1970.
This Monaro remained in their ownership for 42 years. It was always garaged and driven very rarely. In latter years, it had not seen the light of day as it had become too heavy to drive, and they had become very nervous about the safety of the vehicle in public. Having had no children, the back seat has hardly been sat in. It has been only washed in rainwater (with no carwash!) and never polished - until now. All original documentation remains including the logbook, sales invoice and interim registration label.
There are some blemishes that were identified during the change of ownership. There is a scratch under the Monaro badge on the left hand side rear pillar. That was there when it was delivered. There is a small piece out of the left hand front mudflap. This happened only weeks after the car was purchased when they hit a patch of bull dust somewhere near Normanton on its maiden voyage. There is a small dent in the middle of the boot lid. This happened when it was reversed into a pepperina tree at a clearing sale!
It is Sudan Beige in colour and has travelled just over 100 000 miles.
