History
This is my third Mini (i come from a country area with a lot of winding roads so while my first one was to replace the chev as everyday transport I soon became a lover of these little beasts).
this car, like the Chev was burried in my parents garage for years after having the bodywork done and was initially built to be as light as I could make it at the time as planned to use it for hillclimbing, club race days etc(can go further but needs a fair bit of money to go past this which I didn't have - actually still don't).
Car is strictly a 2 seater as the foward section back seat's support panel was removed in the interests of weight which was OK when I started building it but became a problem once built to this stage as the missus came home to tell me she was pregnant. - time to put the toys on hold.
Car is finally home now and requires a bit of work to finish but is to be done with the help of my daughter (now 15) who gets to keep it once done on the condition that I can still use it on race days or just for a blast when I want.
Modifications
extensively lightened body including all non structural areas totally removed or drilled out, lexan side and rear windows, all old sound deadening etc removed from floorpans / firewall ect, windup window mechanisms etc removed,
'minimilistic' interior consisting of cloth covered thin plastic door trims with rope door pulls, two recaro seats, two floor mats and a roll cage (everything else interior wise is bare painted steel)
front and rear subframes have been changed to rubber suspension versions with the front having negative camber bottom arms and hi -los and the rear hi-los only.
engine is a 998 a series with heavilly modified 12g295 cooper head, twin 1 1/4 su carbs, extractors, mild cam lightened flywheel. I do have a 1275 's' engine however given the cars light weight and the shorter 998 stroke engines revibility opted for this instead
brakes are cooper s 7" disc setup on front and std stepped rear drums
other minor mods are cooper s twin tank setup, cooper s over riders, full custom wiring (far more direct route and lighter than the factory harness witth its running everything from solenoid) pinned (skins only) bonnet / bootlid, highly polished contessa wheels (not shown in photo)
